Veteran Lawyer Poornima Hatti leaves Samvad Partners to launch independent practice

Poornima Hatti, dispute resolution partner at law firm Samvad Partners, retires from the firm to set up her own counsel practice.

An alumnus of the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, and the London School of Economics & Political Science, Hatti will focus on corporate and commercial matters, particularly investment and shareholder disputes, oppression and mismanagement disputes, and employment disputes.

She started her career with erstwhile Amarchand Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co (AMSS) in 2003. Later, she joined the international law firm, Herbert Smith. In 2010, she joined Samvad Partners as one of its co-founders.

тАЬIt has been a very memorable journey at Samvad PartnersтАж It is time now for me to focus on the next phase of my career as counsel,тАЭ said Poornima Hatti. тАЬThrough chamber practice, one can focus on advocacy both in litigation and in arbitration. The specialisation will continue to be corporate and commercial work. I also hope to sit as an arbitrator more frequently in both domestic and cross-border complex commercial disputes,тАЭ she added.

Hatti was one of the firm’s co-founders, having been with the firm for more than 15 years, and oversaw the firm’s growth, in particular its disputes practice. Now, she has started her independent chamber practice and will sit as an arbitrator in both domestic and regional disputes.

Recently, several senior litigation lawyers have decided to start a chambers practice, giving them the freedom to appear in court as counsel and to serve as arbitrators in arbitral tribunals.
In February, Vertices Partners co-founder Amit Vyas left the firm to set up Vedanta Law Chambers, a boutique dispute law firm in Mumbai focused on commercial disputes and white-collar crime.Last year, Vyapak Desai, a senior legal professional and head of the international arbitration and dispute resolution practice at Nishith Desai Associates (NDA), left the firm after nearly two decades to start his own independent chamber practice.
