Air India Delhi–Mumbai flight returns to Delhi after technical issue

New Delhi: An Air India flight en route to Mumbai returned to Delhi soon after take off on Monday after a technical issue, ANI reported citing the airline’s spokesperson.

The flight, AI887, returned to origin to ensure passenger safety and the decision was in line with the standard operating procedures. The aircraft landed safely at Delhi, and all passengers and crew disembarked normally, the spokesperson further said.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation on Monday took note of an incident involving Air India flight AI-887, which experienced a technical issue shortly after take-off and was forced to return. The aircraft landed safely, with no injuries reported.
The Ministry has sought a detailed report from Air India, while the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been directed to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

Air India has also been instructed to provide all necessary assistance to affected passengers and accommodate them on subsequent flights, with authorities reiterating that passenger safety remains paramount.

Last week a similar incident was reported when a Visakhapatnam-bound Air India Express flight was cancelled at Vijayawada’s Gannavaram Airport after pilots detected an engine-related technical snag while taxiing.The aircraft returned to the bay before departure and the flight was subsequently called off, with passengers offered hotel accommodation, refunds or complimentary rescheduling.

Among those onboard were several high-profile passengers, including former Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu and senior political figures.
