Ayushman Bharat: UP cuts claim pendency sharply, speeds up hospital payments

In Uttar Pradesh, there has been significant improvement in Ayushman Yojana claim settlements over the past year. Apart from ensuring cashless treatment for families receiving medical treatment under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, the state government has given special focus to timely payments to hospitals associated with the scheme.

In a press release issued by UP’s public information department, Archana Verma, CEO of the State Agency for Comprehensive Health and Integrated Services (SACHIS), said that special measures are being taken to ensure prompt and transparent settlement of claims submitted by government and private hospitals listed under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme.

According to the release, while claim pendency reached 10.75 lakh in January 2025, it has dropped to just 300,000 lakhs by December 2025. This will also be resolved soon.
She explained that hospitals in the state receive an average of over two lakh claims per month under the scheme. The timely settlement of so many claims is a significant challenge. Despite this, efforts are being made to ensure that both old pending cases and new claims are resolved in a regular and systematic manner. The primary objective is to ensure that listed hospitals provide treatment to Ayushman card holders without any delays, the release said.

The ACEO of the State Agency for Comprehensive Integrated Services (SACHIS), Pooja Yadav, said that the medical audit system has been strengthened to simplify, make transparent, and expedite the claims processing process. The number of medical auditors has been increased from 40 to 130, expediting the claims processing process.

The number of Claims Processing Desks (CPDs) has also been increased from 100 to 125. Claims submitted by hospitals under the scheme should be paid within the stipulated turnaround time (TAT) of 30 days. To achieve this goal, regular review meetings are being held at the agency level, and pending cases are being continuously monitored.
The CEO of SACHIS, in the release, said that between January 25 and December 25, a total of ₹4,649 crore has been disbursed to state-listed hospitals under the Ayushman Bharat scheme in relation to claims.
