The Draft NEP 2026 sets a target of 2,000 kWh per capita electricity consumption by 2030, rising to over 4,000 kWh by 2047—a significant leap from the current 1,460 kWh (2024–25). These targets reflect India’s growing energy needs driven by industrialization, urbanization, and economic development. Achieving them will require massive capacity expansion, improved grid reliability, and inclusive access, ensuring no citizen is left behind in the energy transition.
