Data from the civil aviation ministry showed that more than 2.6 lakh passengers were directly affected at Mumbai airport between December 1 and 8. IndiGo recorded 905 cancellations and 1,475 delays of over 30 minutes during this period. The disruption built up through the week as operational strain increased, leading to a cascading effect across terminals.

IndiGo had planned 3,171 movements from Mumbai during the eight-day period but operated only 2,266 flights. Cancellations rose from 14 on December 1 to 295 on December 5, and delays peaked at 281 on December 3.
Aviation officials said around 780 bags belonging to passengers of cancelled flights were pending delivery. The ministry said 90 per cent of these will reach passengers by Wednesday.

Government orders schedule cut to stabilise flights

Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said the ministry has ordered a 10 per cent reduction in IndiGo’s flight schedule. He said the airline’s CEO was summoned and “confirmed” that refunds for all flights affected till December 6 have been completed.
“A curtailment of 10 per cent (in IndiGo’s flight schedule) has been ordered. While abiding with it, IndiGo will continue to cover all its destinations as before,” Naidu said. Earlier in the day, DGCA had announced a 5 per cent cut in the schedule. The ministry said reducing the number of flights was “necessary” to stabilise operations and prevent further cancellations.
