Tata Harrier petrol launched: Check expected price, mileage, variant and features

Tata Motors has launched the petrol variant of its flagship SUV, the Harrier, in India, addressing a gap in its current diesel-only lineup. The new model features a turbocharged petrol engine, catering to buyers who prefer petrol refinement, quieter operation, and improved urban drivability. The Safari petrol variant is expected to follow soon, with strong demand already building up.

Engine specifications and performance of Tata Harrier Petrol

The Harrier petrol debuts Tata’s 1.5-litre TGDi turbo petrol engine, developed under the Hyperion powertrain program. The engine produces around 167.7 hp and 280 Nm of peak torque, comparable to the diesel variant. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard, with an automatic transmission option available for buyers seeking convenience. The petrol engine offers smoother power delivery, quicker throttle response, and quieter operation, particularly in city driving conditions.

Tata Harrier Petrol Mileage

The petrol variant is likely to return lower fuel efficiency than its diesel counterpart, with an estimated 12-14 km/l in mixed driving conditions depending on transmission and driving style. Buyers can expect enhanced refinement, reduced diesel noise, improved cold-start performance, and a more comfortable experience in stop-and-go traffic, making the petrol option suitable for predominantly urban use.

Tata Harrier Petrol Price

The Harrier petrol has been priced from around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). It is expected to be around Rs 50,000 to Rs 80,000 cheaper than the diesel variant, which ranges from approximately Rs 13 lakh to Rs 24.5 lakh. Tata Motors aims to position the petrol variant slightly below the diesel model, targeting buyers who prefer petrol while competing directly with rivals such as the MG Hector, Hyundai Alcazar, and Mahindra XUV700.

Tata Harrier Petrol Design and features remain unchanged

Apart from the engine, the petrol variant retains the same design and features as the facelifted diesel model. Buyers can expect a digital cockpit, large touchscreen infotainment system, ADAS suite, premium cabin materials, panoramic sunroof, and five-star safety credentials.

Safari petrol update

While the Harrier petrol has launched today, the petrol version of the Tata Safari is expected to arrive soon, completing the petrol offering for Tata’s flagship SUV lineup.
