Zee tunes its ad engine, brings in Sandeep Mehrotra as COO for revenue push

Zee Entertainment Enterprises is aiming at lifting its advertising business as it looks to sharpen monetisation across TV and digital, appointing industry veteran Sandeep Mehrotra as Chief Operating Officer – Advertisement Revenue.Mehrotra, who brings around three decades of experience in media sales and revenue strategy, will take charge of driving advertising growth by better integrating Zee’s linear television and digital platforms. He will be based in Mumbai and report to Chief Executive Officer Punit Goenka. His appointment takes effect from February 3, 2026.

The move comes as Zee looks to strengthen its leadership bench and build a more future-ready revenue engine at a time when the lines between television and digital consumption are increasingly blurring. The company said the focus will be on enhancing existing revenue streams while also unlocking new growth opportunities across businesses.
While Mehrotra steps into the newly created COO role, Laxmi Shetty will continue to lead the advertising revenue vertical as Head – Advertisement Revenue, Broadcast & Digital, working closely with him to scale the business.

Welcoming the appointment, Goenka said the rapidly evolving entertainment landscape demands sharper, outcome-driven monetisation strategies that are not tied to a single platform.


“As we sharpen our revenue generation capabilities to build sustained growth for the future, we are also taking strategic steps to enhance our bench strength with experienced leaders,” he said, adding that Mehrotra’s deep understanding of the advertiser ecosystem would be key to building an integrated and diversified revenue model.
For Mehrotra, the timing is just right. “Zee has a robust presence across both linear and digital segments,” he said, calling it a unique opportunity to drive higher advertiser engagement and create a more integrated and scalable advertising ecosystem.Before joining Zee, Mehrotra was associated with Culver Max Entertainment (formerly Sony Pictures Networks India), where he served as Head of Advertisement Sales – Network Channels. Over his career, he has led large-scale P&L operations, transformed traditional sales models and built high-performance revenue teams across complex consumer-facing businesses.

With this appointment, Zee is signaling a renewed push to align its human capital and monetisation strategy with its long-term ambitions, betting that sharper leadership and tighter convergence between TV and digital will help power the next phase of growth.
